Purpose of the Role

As a Front of House Usher, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring a welcoming and safe experience for all patrons, supporting the theatre’s operations to deliver an outstanding service. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with the public and contribute to an unforgettable experience at one of South Africa’s most respected cultural venues.

Key Responsibilities

As a Front of House Usher, your main responsibilities will include:

  1. Ticket Scanning
    • Responsible for scanning tickets and managing entry to events.
  2. Patron Assistance
    • Directing patrons to their seats and answering any queries.
    • Assisting patrons with special needs or those requiring additional help.
  3. Safety and Guidance
    • Ensuring aisles and walkways are clear.
    • Guiding audiences safely to exits and entrances during performances.
    • Addressing and resolving disputes or issues that arise during events.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: Grade 12 certificate
  • Experience: Previous work in the hospitality or theatre industry is advantageous.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Friendly, approachable manner with strong communication skills.
    • Fluency in English and at least one other official language.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and both independently and as part of a team.
