Purpose of the Role

The General Assistant is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of maintenance activities on the Zola campus. This role supports general groundskeeping, exterior building maintenance, and safety checks, contributing significantly to Bidvest Facilities Management’s standards and compliance with local regulations. Key Responsibilities

As a General Assistant, you will be responsible for the following duties:

General Groundskeeping & Outside Maintenance:

• Cleaning and maintaining the grounds and exterior spaces.
• Flushing and cleaning of stormwater drains according to a schedule.

Wastewater Treatment Plant:

• Assisting in daily inspections and servicing of key systems to ensure continuity of critical services.
• Addressing spillage and overflow issues promptly.

Parking Level Maintenance:

• Maintaining and replacing trash bins; ensuring the cleanliness of these spaces.
• Checking and replacing light bulbs/tubes; repairing entry/exit doors.
• Monitoring fire extinguishers and ensuring the functionality of EV chargers.

Exterior Building Face:

• Regular cleaning and upkeep of exterior components like louvers and security lights.

Monthly Checks & Inspections:

• Conducting checks on wet systems for operational efficiency and compliance.

Pest Control & Bird Management:

• Assisting with pest control and managing bird-related cleanliness.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Performing cleaning tasks in various areas and assisting with overflow duties relating to wet services.

This role requires initiative and adherence to strict safety and operational standards.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Qualification: Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Work Experience: Prior experience in a facilities management setting is advantageous but not essential.
• Skills & Competencies:
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to perform manual labor and manage tasks that require physical activity.
